Dr Shahn Bisschop joined Avimune as a consulting veterinarian and director in late 2010, and in 2012 was appointed as CEO of the company.

Prior to joining Avimune, he worked at the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Pretoria for 12 years, 10 years as the Director of the Poultry Reference Centre. As an academic, he supervised undergraduate training of veterinarians in Poultry Diseases, co-authored 23 peer-reviewed publications and supervised 14 Masters and PhD students. He spent most of the 1990s working in rural development.

In 2012 he became a Diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians and in 2023 was recognized as a Specialist Poultry Veterinarian by the SAVC in 2023.”

Apart from leading Avimune as the CEO, Dr. Bisschop consults to clients in both the broiler and layer industries. He also serves as co-ordinator of the SA Poultry Association Technical team on Avian Influenza and holds a part-time position as Senior Lecture at the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Pretoria.
